Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is in Westchester, roughly 14 miles from Hollywood. Be aware that Los Angeles traffic is notoriously heavy so your travel time can blow out. Map your destination first to see if you’re going to hit any traffic snarls that might mess around with your schedule.
The thing to remember with LA is that it’s more like a diverse collection of mini-cities than a traditional city with a central downtown area and surrounding suburbs (even though there is a downtown area, but it’s not where you’d go as a starting point). Los Angeles is spread out and not really a walkable city. Hiring a car or taking cabs makes it a lot easier to get around.
Well, you might see some fake ones charging for photos on Hollywood Boulevard, but, in reality, probably not. If you want to up your chances, you can take a tour of movie studios like Paramount – you might catch a glimpse of a star at work there – or a bus tour of celebrity homes. Sorry.
In a word - sunny. Los Angeles experiences, on average, 300 days of sun a year. Oceanside is temperate all year round, while it can get hotter in the Valley in summer.
No - there are a number of smaller airports in the area, and they are significantly less busy than LAX, so you could consider flying into Burbank or Long Beach if you want a quicker arrival and departure experience. If you’re heading to LA specifically to go to Disneyland, John Wayne Airport (SNA) is the closest option.
Yes. There are frequent courtesy shuttles to get you between the 9 terminals. Look for the blue ‘LAX Shuttle & Airline Connections’ signs on the Lower/Arrivals Level islands in front of each terminal, and allow yourself a bit of time.
“Communications with the Lyft dispatch center worked well. Our driver arrived on-time. We were fortunate to NOT experience the usual LA traffic until we got to LAX. After inching our way toward the departure entrance, our driver suggested that he take us to the arrivals entrance and we could take the escalator or elevator to the ticketing lobby. This worked out well. I do not know how much time this saved, but I would estimate 20 minutes.”
